Update 3.20.20

Stay Steadfast, Stay Small.

Greetings SONrise,

As we enter uncharted waters and unprecedented times, we want to keep up communication and community within our SONrise family.  “Church” will look different than you are used to, but we must not lose sight of the mission of SONrise to “Make known the living Christ and live for Him!”  We are thankful now more than ever that we don’t GO to church, but we ARE the Church!

We are called to not live in fear, but we are also commanded in God’s Word to respect the authority placed over us.  Since that authority has told us to practice “social distancing” and not gather in groups of more than 10, we will not be meeting together in large groups for the foreseeable future.  This means no Saturday nights, Sunday mornings or extras.

In order to maintain as many regular rhythms as possible, we will be shifting online during the coming weeks so that we can help you stay connected to God and each other during this trying time. If this is difficult for you, please reach out to any of the staff members for help accessing our website or Facebook.  We don’t want anyone to feel isolated or alone!

Weekends: During the weekends, the service will be pre-recorded and uploaded on Sunday morning for you to view during our usual worship service time at 10am.  You will be able to watch it on our Facebook page or on our website at www.torringtonsonrise.church.  Consider hosting a watch party with your life group or a few close friends.  Keep these gatherings to 10 or less and please be sure to stay home if you are feeling unwell in anyway.

Pastoral Candidate: Brent and Bobbi Mullock will be sharing on 3/22. Once you have watched the video, please forward any questions to info@torringtonsonrise.church or contact one of the elders.  On 3/29 Brent will answer any questions that have come in at that time and there will be a church vote to follow.  Stay up to date by following the pastoral update section on our website.

Youth: If your child is a part of our youth groups, have them tune in on Wednesday evenings at 6pm for a word from their leaders.  Pastor Paul will be sending out a link to watch these videos on our Collision Youth YouTube channel. We understand that many of you are dealing with many questions and disappointments. Please reach out if you need to talk.

SONkidz: If your child is a part of SONkidz join the SONrise Children’s Ministry Facebook Group.  Videos and activities will be posted there. Additionally, watch for a kids’ segment presented during the service video posted on Sunday mornings.

Life Groups: We encourage life groups to continue meeting together.  Please follow recommendations of gatherings of 10 or less.  If you have 10 or more:

  • Option 1: Split up into smaller groups during this time.  Allow leaders to rise up from within and grow!
  • Option 2: Explore online meeting options such as Zoom if you wish to gather remotely as a whole group.

Easter Plans:

  • Good Friday: We would like to see small gatherings of 10 or less on Good Friday to gather, pray, take communion, and participate in a devotional together.  If you do not have a life group and you are interested in participating or hosting a Good Friday gathering, please contact Matt Parker at 307.760.7654.
  • Easter: We are planning on not being able to meet in person for our Easter service.  Our big plans for Easter will be adaptable to an online or in-person gathering.  Watch the website for details on that.

Giving Options: Some of you have inquired about how you can continue to tithe. We have two options.

Option 1: Drop a check in the mail to

  • SONrise Church
  • PO Box 415
  • Torrington, WY 82240

Option 2: Go to our website (www.torringtonsonrise.church) and click on the giving tab.  Please note, this option will take out an online processing fee.

Supporting our neighbors and community: There are many people around you who may need help during this time.  Current situations are providing numerous options to care for our neighbors.  From grocery shopping, sending encouraging notes, shopping locally, etc.  Be sure to check on your neighbors and see how you can love those in our community.

SONcare info: If you are someone who is more at risk and are unable to leave your home, please reach out to our SONcare team.  We have individuals ready to help you as needed.  Whether it’s getting groceries, picking up a meal, or running a few errands, please do not hesitate to reach out!  Maybe you just need to talk to someone.  No need is too small!  To reach our team, call 307-216-3210 and press option 5, or email soncare@torringtonsonrise.church.

God has many things to teach us in this time.  We are excited for our church and each of us as we are forced to rely ONLY on God.  We love you all and eagerly anticipate the day we return to handshakes and hugs!

Sincerely,

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything.  Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all he has done.  Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand.  His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7

  • FRIDAY, MARCH 13, 2020 8:00PM UPDATE

    SONrise Family,

We recognize that God is in control over all things and that He has not given us a spirit of fear, but a spirit of love, power, and a sound mind (2 Tim. 1:7). As the world is paralyzed and crippled by anxiety and worry, we have an opportunity to demonstrate that faith in God impacts the way we live and think. We encourage you to trust God.

We also recognize that this virus has had an impact especially on those who are elderly or who have compromised immune systems.  We encourage those at highest risk to this virus to stay home and utilize media sources.  It is prudent to follow best practices: washing hands regularly, following CDC recommendations.

As of this point, we are planning on continuing our Saturday evening and Sunday morning services.  All other activities will be postponed until further notice.  Life groups may meet at the group’s discretion.  We will utilize Facebook and One Call to keep everyone informed of changes.  If you need help accessing media sources please contact staff or leadership.  We will have hand sanitizer available at services and request that our greeters and attendees not shake hands this week and until further notice.

If you are feeling  sick or have had a recent fever, please stay home.  We will continue to post messages online as well as testimonies and worship as we receive proper permissions.  We will have services available in their entirety on the SONrise website beginning with this weekend.

We also encourage you to pray: pray for those who have become sick with Covid-19, pray that God would allow this pandemic to drive people towards Him and remind them that we are mortal and that death is a very real reality that we all will face one day, pray that the church could be a light in a dark world.

When ancient Rome had outbreaks of disease, they would lock the sick out of the city and leave them to die. It was the Christians who had compassion and showed love. As we are wise in the way we act, may we not allow fear to overwhelm love.
